42U buys RTD metro passes and gives them to all our local employees at no cost, to encourage our employees to use busses and trains more and drive less. - Bike to Work Day Award
In 2008 our company took first place in our division for RTD's annual "Bike to Work Day". Those who participated biked, car pooled, worked from home, or took mass transit to work. We are hoping to achieve the same in 2010.

To further reduce driving, we have invested heavily in our remote technologies and remote management. We encourage our employees to work from home 1 or more days a week. We also feel that anytime they don't have to spend commuting to and from work is time they can better spend with their friends and family and thus improve their quality of life.
Promoting Efficiency for the Common Good- Monthly pro-bono energy audit for charitable organizations
Charities enrich our communities every day. To these agencies, who strive interminably for a greater good, 42U offers one pro-bono energy

Minimizing our office CO2 Footprint- Recycling
- Our IT staff is required to purchases IT equipment that is over 90% recyclable
- We print on both sides of paper & re-use paper
- We buy eco-friendly products, and buy only recyclable consumable products
- We buy food in bulk for our employees, don't use plastic bags, and recycle everything!
- E-Reader
- At our reception desk we used to keep several newspapers and magazines for visitors to our office and for our employees. On the suggestion of one of our employees, we cancelled all those subscriptions. Now if you come early for a visit to our head office, you will be offered an E-Reader to read while you wait.
42U supports Meatless Mondays- Informing and educating our employees and customers on the benefits of reducing their meat consumption
- Company provided meatless lunches on Mondays
- Meatless meals help us reduce our carbon footprint. According to the United Nations, the meat industry generates approximately 20% of all man made green house gasses. It also helps reduce the massive amount of water needed in the livestock industry
- By providing free lunch for everyone in our head offices, our employees can spend their lunch taking walks, biking, reading, and relaxing instead of using fossil fuels driving to and from fast food restaurants.
- Reducing meat consumption helps you stay healthier by reducing your risks of getting heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and obesity. Better health also helps reduce the healthcare costs related to preventable diseases.
- Going meatless at least one day a week can have a significant and positive impact on the billions of livestock animals slaughtered annually for food consumption.
- We are actively promoting Meatless Mondays to the million plus IT Professionals who visit our websites. With their knowledge and technical talents we are hoping this will have a very positive domino effect as they use their technical gifts to inform and educate others about the importance of adopting Meatless Mondays.

Electronic forms - Internally and with our customers
We stopped producing any paper sales or marketing materials years ago, moving to publishing online and distributing PDF files. We encourage our customers to accept electronic forms such as orders, quotes, invoices, and electronic transfer payments. - Vendors
We instructed all our vendors to bill and communicate with us by email - Banks
We encourage electronic payments. We still had the reality that most of our customers prefer to send us paper checks so we acquired specialized equipment so that we could scan these checks in and send our deposit info to our banks. This eliminated the need to create paper deposits and have them driven to our bank.

While many companies are very guarded and protective in disclosing what they consider their proprietary knowledge, 42U is aggressively working to document all our knowledge and experience on energy efficiency and provide this information openly to help our website visitors reduce their energy consumption and reduce their organization's carbon footprint. - We offer open royalty free sharing of 42U.com's efficiency content, images, and diagrams. We strongly believe that the more IT Professionals and corporate leaders learn about the devastating effects greenhouse gases have on our environment, and the more they learn about the huge amount of CO2 Emissions their data centers produce, the more they will want to learn about implementing energy efficiency best practices to reduce their energy consumption.
