KVM Switch.
The Cybex XP4040 (formerly the Cybex 4xp) paved
the way for enterprise-level KVM
switches because the modular XP design allowed multiple
users to control KVM functions to any multi-platform computer
connected to the system. Highly considered the cornerstone of
the Avocent/Cybex XP4000 product family,
the XP4040 provided KVM matrix switching control for large data
center environments. The modular design of the XP4040 allowed
users to configure each XP4040 for current configurations and
permitted simple expansion by incorporating additional XP4040
modules. The straightforward design of the XP4040 offered system
administrators freedom to manage the KVM system from a server
room, computer lab or directly from office desktops.
As of March 31, 2005, the enterprise-level
KVM switch manufacturer
Avocent has announced end-of-life
and product discontinuations to the entire XP KVM switch product
line. Avocent has since moved on to more advanced KVM switches
which offer superior control for mission-critical systems.
End-of-life announcements for several 1st generation
enterprise-level Avocent
KVM switches will often leave
customers without a solution when technical problems arise or
if expansion is necessary. 42U
Sales Engineers are here to assist XP customers to help find
product replacements and upgrades for discontinued XP
KVM switches. Competitive KVM
upgrades for the latest technology include
CAT5 KVM switches as well as
KVM over IP Digital technology.
New Avocent
KVM switches available for
XP replacement would include the Avocent
AMX CAT5-based KVM switch
as well as the DSR KVM over IP
product line.
To further assist users with upgrading and replacing
discontinued KVM products, 42U
is offering a port buy-back program to help users recoup a part
of the initial KVM investment. Port buy-back allows XP users
to trade-in old KVM equipment and receive credit for new
KVM switches that are purchased
through 42U.
The KVM buy-back program works on a Port for
Port basis and will allow users to combine ports on more than
one KVM Switch. For example:
if 2 KVM Switches with a total of 32-Ports are being considered
for port buy-back, users will receive credit for all 32-Ports
if a new KVM system totaling 32 ports or more is purchased.
