The Avocent-Cybex
XP4000 modular components were designed to work together and
grow with KVM needs. Customers
with existing XP configurations could easily incorporate products
from the XP4000 Series to continue leveraging their initial
investment. The entire XP KVM line
was the most flexible, expandable and scalable matrix solution
available for large data centers and server farms. The
XP matrix KVM switching system provided
freedom of uninterrupted, simultaneous access to every mission-critical
server or serial based device in the configuration.
As of March 31, 2005, the enterprise-level
KVM switch manufacturer
Avocent has announced end-of-life
and product discontinuations to the entire
XP KVM
switch product line. Avocent has
since moved on to more advanced
KVM switches which offer superior control for mission-critical
systems.
End-of-life announcements for several 1st generation
enterprise-level Avocent
KVM switches will often leave
customers without a solution when technical problems arise or
if expansion is necessary. 42U
Sales Engineers are here to assist XP customers to help find
product replacements and upgrades for discontinued XP KVM switches.
Competitive KVM upgrades for the latest technology include
CAT5 KVM switches as well as
KVM over IP Digital technology.
New Avocent
KVM switches available for
XP replacement would include the Avocent
AMX CAT5-based KVM switch
as well as the DSR KVM over IP
product line.
To further assist users with upgrading and replacing
discontinued KVM products, 42U
is offering a port buy-back program to help users recoup a part
of the initial KVM investment. Port buy-back allows XP users
to trade-in old KVM equipment and receive credit for new
KVM switches that are purchased
through 42U.
The KVM buy-back program works on a Port for
Port basis and allows users to combine ports on more than one
KVM Switch. For example: if
2 KVM Switches with a total
of 32-Ports are being considered for port buy-back, users will
receive credit for all 32-Ports if a new KVM system totaling
32 ports or more is purchased.

XP4040
The Most Advanced and Versatile Multi-user Multi-Platform
KVM Switching System for Contemporary Server Room Management.
Save Space, Enhance Control and Improve the Manageability of
Your Data Center with the XP4040.
The XP4040 is the cornerstone of the Avocent-Cybex XP4000 Series
matrix switching system for large data center management.
With the integrated multi-platform and multi-user capabilities
of the XP4040, network managers and their assistants can efficiently
maintain even the most complex configurations from multiple
points of control.
The modular design of the XP4040 allows system administrators
the freedom of running the system from their server room, computer
lab or directly from their office desktops. Plus, hot-swappable
components simplify system expansion and maintenance.

XP4080
The XP4080 is used to attach servers to the
system. This component, perfect for non-blocking configurations,
allows system users to access up to eight computers per unit
simultaneously without interruption from another user.

XP4400
For larger,
more complex installations, the XP4400 chassis allows the most
efficient and economical solution in the industry. Comprised
of specialized transmitter and receiver modules, this unit channels
over 100 expansion signals between system users and computers
simultaneously. This creates the most streamlined configuration
possible, and can greatly reduce the overall quantity of components
required in your system.
Avocent-Cybex
XP4000 Multi-User
The XP4040 allows multiple users to control and operate
different computers at the same time. System users can access
any attached computer completely independent of the other users.
Avocent-Cybex
XP4000 Multi-Platform
The XP4040 simultaneously supports any combination of
PC, Macintosh, Sun, RS/6000, Silicon Graphics, DEC Alpha and
Hewlett Packard computers. Use any platform's keyboard, monitor
and mouse to access any computer in the system, and switch seamlessly
across platforms.
Avocent-Cybex
XP4000 Scalability
Since the XP4040 is modular, you buy only what you need
now and add components as your system grows. Need more than
4 simultaneous users? Add a second XP4040 unit with additional
user modules. Adding another rack of servers? Just add computer
cards. In fact, by connecting multiple XP4040 units together
you can have hundreds of users operating hundreds of computers
within one XP4040 system.
Avocent-Cybex
XP4000 Flexibility
Avocent expansion cables let you locate your computers
and users wherever you need them most. Your computers don't
all have to be in the same place, and you don't have to be in
the same room to control them. Linked XP4040 units can be up
to 250 feet apart for maximum flexibility in your configuration.
Users can be as far as 500 feet away from an attached computer
and still have control.
