Data Centers today commonly standardize on dual-power corded network gear as facilities managers continue to push for improved network availability. Regardless of the power input feeds, however, network gear does occasionally lock-up and requires a remote reboot procedure to bring it back to operational status. Data Centers aiming for five 9’s availability (99.999% uptime) require a remote solution to reduce Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) to decrease downtime and increase improved productivity & efficiency.

The Sentry PT22 combines high-amperage Power Distribution with Remote Management for applications such routers and backbone equipment with high power draws that require a remote reboot. When a router or switch hangs or locks-up, the entire network lock-ups with it. However, the Sentry PT22 enables network administrators to safely & efficiently reboot a hung-up router, switch or other network device to bring it back online quickly.

The PT22 is ideal for applications that require a remote reboot of high-amp 115 VAC or 230 VAC powered equipment. It includes convenient remote access features to allow management via LAN/WAN networks for secure Web, SNMP or SSH; dial-up connection; and RS-232 for local terminal.

Additionally, the PT22 supports Pass-Thru Console Port Access -- via the complimentary Sentry PT49 -- to integrate secure, in-band and/or out-of-band asynchronous communications for serial connections to remote devices’ console ports. Link the Sentry PT49 (Pass-Thru Console Port Access) to the PT22 (Remote Power Management) and integrate these two features into one interface. A common application for the PT49 is to access & update the configuration able of a router, or eliminate multiple modem lines or the need for an expensive terminal server.

Sentry PT22 Key Features & Benefits

Sentry PT22 Remote Outlet Grouping & Control: Assign outlets to a group for control of dual-power supply servers and other gear with a single command. Create an unlimited number of groups with any combination of outlets associated to each group.

Sentry PT22 HTTP/HTTPs Web Configuration & Control: Use the Sentry Web interface to configure each unit, including network settings, outlet naming & grouping, SNMP traps for environmental & power thresholds and firmware updates. Also use the Web interface to control individual or group outlets and monitor environmental conditions. SSL security provides a secure HTTPs connection.

Sentry PT22 SSL Web Browser: Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a commonly-used protocol for managing the security of a message transmission on the Internet. SSL is an integral part of most Web browsers (clients) and Web servers. Sentry supports SSLv3/TLSv1.

Sentry PT22 SSH management:  Secure Shell (SSH), sometimes known as Secure Socket Shell, is a Unix-based command interface and protocol for securely getting access to a remote device. Sentry supports SSHv2.

Sentry PT22 SNMP Management: The Sentry family of products supports the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). This allows network management systems to use SNMP requests to retrieve information and control power for the individual outlets. The Sentry includes an SNMP v1 agent supporting standard MIB I and MIB II objects. A private enterprise MIB extension (Sentry3 MIB) is also supported to provide remote power control.

Sentry PT22 SNMP Traps for Event Notification: SNMP traps can be generated for various events, including Input Current Load Thresholds (min & max), Temperature Thresholds (min & max), Humidity Thresholds (min & max), water indication, closed contacts (cabinet doors open/close), as well as notification of any time an outlet status is changed (on/off).

Sentry PT22 with LDAP: LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) is a software protocol for enabling anyone to locate organizations, individuals, and other resources such as files and devices in a network, whether on the public Internet or on a corporate intranet.

Sentry firmware code 5.3b and newer includes support for LDAP v3 and is configurable to operate with any Directory Service. It has been tested with these Directory Services:

  • Microsoft’s Active Directory

  • Novell’s eDirectory

  • Open LDAP

Sentry PT22 Authentication:  16-character Username & Password required for network administrators & user accounts. Multiple user accounts can be established with access rights only to designated outlets.

Sentry PT22 RS-232 Control: Serial control via any device with a bi-directional serial port, including a PC, laptop, KVM switch, Console Port Access switch, or terminal server.

Sentry PT22 Telnet Management:  Telnet is a user command and an underlying TCP/IP protocol for accessing remote computers.

Sentry PT22 Multiple Concurrent Users:  Multiple concurrent users allows several users to be logged into a Sentry at the same time. In this way, different users, with access rights to only their equipment, can reboot their device(s) when they need to, without waiting for another user to log out of the Sentry unit.

Sentry PT22 24-Character Outlet Receptacles Names:  Use the firmware interface (Web or serial) to edit individual outlet receptacles. Identify each receptacle with the device's serial number, IP address, asset allocation #, department or any other method to individually name outlets.

Sentry PT22 20-Amp Power Input Support:  20-amp Power Input Support. IEC320/C20 power inlet receptacles supports any power cord with IEC320/C19 power connector (PTCORD-XX).

Sentry PT22 Remote Power Control: Individual or group outlet remote power control to cycle power and reboot any selected server(s) or other network device(s). Use TCP/IP (HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, Telnet, SNMP) or RS-232 to communicate with each Sentry and rectify locked-up network devices.
