Sentry Power Tower Expanded Function (PTEF)
The new Sentry™ Power Tower™ Expanded Function model provides the highest density and most robust Remote Power Management solution for network equipment units and occupies zero U of valuable rack space, giving your Data Center all available advanced Power Management functions. Power Sequencing eliminates blown circuit breaker or tripped fuses caused by 'power-inrush'. Individual Receptacle On/Off control allows for remote reboot of any unit. SNMP traps alarm when current thresholds are exceeded. Advanced security and RS-232, HTML or Telnet access are also integrated.
The Sentry Power Tower is an intelligent power distribution unit with 16 remotely addressable power output receptacles that can be individually managed (Power On, Power Off or Reboot), or power outlets can be logically grouped and controlled by one command. Mounted in the rear of an open equipment rack or an enclosed cabinet, the new Power Tower requires no vertical rack space to provide a remote reboot solution for your servers and network equipment units.

Sentry Power Tower Key Features
- Requires Zero U of rack space
- 16 outlets can be controlled for a remote reboot
- 15, 20 or 30 Amp power input feed

- Load Sense provides real-time power measurement
- An LED display indicator provides an accurate measure of the current load
- On Sense confirms voltage is available at each outlet
- RS-232, Modem and Ethernet (Telnet, SNMP, HTML) management make it easy to perform a remote reboot
- Username/Password Per Port security supports multiple users with limited access rights
- Integrated "Any-to-Any" asynchronous communications port switch allows direct access to console ports or other serial devices
- Supports IP Security Tables, TACACS+, and SecurID for enhanced security
Unique Architecture
The Sentry Power Tower is uniquely engineered unlike any other Remote Power Management solution available. The Power Tower features the highest density - 16 power outlets - of any vertical power management product. Additionally, each of the 16 power outlets are individual In-Line Power Modules (IPMs), and are remotely switchable outlets. That means you reboot all 16 outlets, not just some of them. The Power Tower supports up to a 30 Amp current distributed across its 16 outlets - a higher amperage load than any other solution.
Power-Up Sequencing
Power-up sequencing on the Power Tower prevents an in-rush power overload. When power is suspended and restored to the Power Tower, the 16 IPMs power-up in two-second or four-second intervals. An LED indicator at each power outlet signifies the status of the IPM, notifying the onsite technician when power has resumed to the outlet. The power-up sequencing feature precludes all 16 outlets from powering-on 16 outlets at once, averting a power overload spike and a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker in your data center.
Load Sense
The Power Tower features Load Sense to precisely measure and report the current draw in Amps that your devices are pulling from all of the Power Tower's 16 IPMs. The Load Sense feature indicates both locally on the Power Tower and through a remote management session the load amount being drawn. An LED power display indicator built into the Power Tower provides on-site installation engineers a real-time Load Sense measurement in amps for all 16 power outlets. Additionally, a network engineer can remotely monitor that same amperage draw through the Power Tower's remote control module.
On Sense
Individual LED indicators at each power outlet verifies for the on-site installation engineer that the IPM is turned on or off, allowing voltage to flow through the power outlet. Similarly, an indicator in the remote control module notifies the remote user whether power is available or unavailable at each outlet for his selected network device. Serial data signaling between each of the 16 IPMs and the remote control module updates the software interface with each change to the Load Sense or ON Sense features.
Remotely Accessing The Power Tower
Managing the Power Tower from a remote location is made easy through its companion Sentry control module. Simply connect the Sentry Power Tower to a Sentry control unit and manage all 16 equipment units in a remote equipment rack or cabinet. Remote communications to the Sentry control module are established via RS-232 serial connection, modem (out-of-band), or Ethernet (in-band) for Telnet, SNMP management or HTML (web interface). Each Sentry control unit is capable of managing one, two, three or four Power Towers - allowing Remote Power Management for up to 64 servers, hubs, routers and other devices.
Sentry's Username/Password Per Port Security interface structure protects each individual power receptacle. This allows several customers to securely perform power control operations on a single Power Tower.
Also available on the Sentry control module's back panel is the integrated "Any-to-Any" asynchronous communications port switch. This Asynch COM Switch feature allows the same communications session to be connected to an internetworking device's console port via a serial cable. Now both remote power control and remote problem determination via the console port can be performed from the same user screen.
