Avocent Rack Power Manager (formerly the DSview Power Manager plug-in) is a standalone solution that allows companies to fully leverage the investment into PDUs by providing centralized management capabilities. Rack Power Manager can manage enterprise size PDU deployments with ease, providing access and control capabilities to maintain and configure your PDUs.

Rack Power Manager also provides state-of-the-art monitoring capabilities that enable intelligent server grouping across disparate racks. It also enables custom reporting, scheduled regular reports and the ability to set real-time threshold alerts to give you the highest quality information on your data center’s power infrastructure and so you can truly leverage the investment in PDUs.

Information gathered from supported power devices, such as Avocent PM PDUs, can be used to generate historical graphs and reports. With that data, IT administrators and managers can consider overall cost and capacity across individual PDUs, racks, rows of racks or entire data centers.

Manage

Rack Power Manager provides a single, secure, browser-based interface to capture power usage at any moment in time and energy usage over a period of time. Visibility into energy consumption data helps IT to operate a more efficient data center, including:

  • Insight for capacity planning
  • Total reading on power usage for better efficiency
  • Leverage your intelligent PDU investment via one centralized interface
  • Allocate costs of power based on actual usage by department
  • Determine what activities can be moved to off-peak times
  • Avoid budget overruns by setting a maximum threshold of power usage
  • Balance of power usage for better efficiency and to maintain a consistently cool data center
  • Preemptive notification and alarms for proactive power management

Single console for access and control to both physical and virtual environments Rack Power Manager also enables IT to calculate what it costs to power a rack (racks or entire data center) per moment, per day or over time and operate or manage power more efficiently

Access

Rack Power Manager helps data center administrators gain real-time access to power consumption and temperature alerts to minimize interruptions and increase uptime. Rack Power Manager also provides power management and reporting capabilities, offering detailed data to assist with data center power usage efficiencies (PUE).

Control

Server power consumption is highly dynamic. Additional equipment, if plugged in to the wrong location, can cause significant downtime and data loss because of power overloads. Rack Power Manager provides detailed, multiple level power and environmental information at your fingertips to monitor overall power and energy consumption usage and costs, which allows for better capacity planning and helps maintain availability of IT assets.

Features and Benefits:

  • Measure and Track Power Costs – The Avocent Rack Power Manager calculates and compares cost across multiple levels (rack, row, data centers or companies) to track cost over a period of time and also to measure the impact of any consolidation or expansion projects.
  • Review Historical Capacity and Consumption Reports – Plan for future expansion or new facilities more accurately based on real historical data rather than faceplate ratings or best-guess scenarios which result in overbuilding and lead to inefficiencies.
  • Protect Against Downtime – Help get a total reading on power usage for the data center and set a maximum threshold of power usage. Set alerts to know when the threshold is reached or exceeded and allow time to make changes before there are actual problems.
  • Accurately Plan – Help IT know what electrical infrastructure to build into a new location or disaster recovery site. The design can be based on actual historical data rather than faceplate ratings or best-guess scenarios which result in overbuilding and lead to hard-to-correct inefficiencies.
