Up to 32 network devices can be controlled via local or dial-up access from one dumb terminal. This intelligent console switch provides a convenient method of connecting multiple RS232 devices for on-site and dial-up remote communications.
Network administrators can manage server farms or data centers via serial ports and standard external modems. Out-of-band access allows administrators to control multiple UNIX computers and LAN/WAN components, even if the network is down! Obtain status, manager servers, and diagnose problems, all without shutting down devices. Troubleshooting failures is simplified by built-in data buffers which save recent RS232 console output from each connected device. This serial port switch eliminates the need to connect each device to a dumb terminal or PC.
Remote access is convenient and secure, with port-specific names and passwords. Administrators can individually access and configure each port. The switch is controlled by push buttons on the front panel, or via a dumb terminal by a menu-driven integrated software. Remote connectivity via phone line communication using RS232 serial ports and standard external modems (one at local site and one at remote site). Provides out-of-band access to network devices (servers, routers, network switches, and any other network device allowing console operation using RS232). Connect up to 32 devices with different baud rates, parity, and character length. Each switch also has one DB9 connector for the local terminal. | Built-in Control Methods Control Modes Buffer Mode - Read incoming data, wait for special string in-band command, including administrator/user password. Link Mode - Connect to another port, data flow between ports. Command Mode - Two levels: administrator and user. Port parameters can be viewed/modified, ports may be connected and disconnected. Users can be changed or disconnected and passwords can be changed.
